A new Dhyan Chand Award for Life Time Achievement in Sports and Games has been instituted from the year 2002 to honour those sportspersons who have contributed to sports by their performance and continue to contribute to promotion of sports even after their retirement from active sporting career. The award carries a cash award of Rs. 1.50 lakh, a plaque and a scroll of honour.
